Who is on the Governing Body?

Name: Darren Gibbons. Role: Parent Governor appointed January 2015, Chair of Governors.
Background: I live in Kempston with my partner Helen, I’m father to 6 children ranging from 17 years to 14 months, with one son at Springfield in Year 4, and another son looking forward to joining Reception Class this September.

Whilst I have only been a member of the Governing Body since January 15, I expect to be able to bring my training and experience of running businesses to the benefit of the school. I have a very strong belief that every child should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential in a safe and positive environment and will be working with all the schools stakeholders; parents, teachers, leaders to ensure that we continue to provide that environment and carry on with the excellent progress being made.

Background: Having lived in Kempston for over 40 years, my children attended Springfield School and I have been involved with the school, first on the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and since 1999 as a school Governor. Through my employment I have brought skills to the Governing Body, and will continue with my commitment to work with all the Team, so our children can achieve their potential, with a positive approach, safely and in a happy environment. So enhancing the good progress already being made.

Name: Carl Meader. Role: Local Authority Appointed Governor appointed October 2015.
Background: I live in Kempston and attended Springfield Lower School as child when the school was first built. I am a Bedford Borough Councillor for Kempston South ward and was first elected in 2000. I am the Deputy Leader of the Labour Group, Mayor of Kempston and serve on the Children’s Services Overview & Scrutiny Committee. I have been a Governor at Springfield for a number of years and I am also a Governor at Daubeney Academy.

Name: Aleksandra Leska. Role: Staff Governor appointed December 2013.
Background: I came to Bedford 8 years ago, straight from Poland. Everything in England was new and exciting. First me and my husband were focused on raising my children (a boy and a girl) and I was not looking for a job. Then, about 4 years ago I started to work at Springfield Lower School as a Teaching Assistant; mostly in Reception. Speaking Polish I was able to help all the Polish children that come to school with no English. The school is very inviting and supportive so I felt, and still feel as a part of a team. I love working with children and helping them flourish. I am also helping to run a Chess Club. Being on the Governing Body is interesting and very informative and I can learn even more about the running of the school.
